IONA CORDALE
Simply Iona as it is the only title she has
Simply Iona as it is the only title she has
Age: 22
Religion and Language: Sianeh and Sianehese/Shan
Race: Human
Magic: Sorceress
Alignment: Neutral
Profession: Pirate
Appearance: Thick, ebony curls fall loosely to her elbows; dark lashes frame icy blue eyes. Her skin is milky white; almost an unhealthy and unnatural paleness radiates from it. She wears simple dresses that provide her limbs free and easy movement; they are all solid in color with no designs. Her favorite article of clothing would be a crimson cloak that Iona wears often as she does not like to be bothered by the company of others.
Personality: Iona is easily susceptible to irritation and therefore avoids company; she is quick to anger and has little patience for those around her. She travels alone and despite her sea-bound life she also travels inland to explore the recent goings of men and other breeds. Despite being sharp of mind and observant she is quite lacking in the knowledge of people and makes many social blunders. Iona attempts to display an air of proper etiquette but her short fuse will often ignite causing her to appear childish and bitter. She is incredibly stubborn and believes herself to be permanently right (though she is most often wrong). Regardless of her gruff demeanor Iona does have a genuine heart even if it is something she does keep to herself; she has her own set of morals that she abides by. But emotion can be a weakness in her eyes.
Likes: The water, seafood, magic, anything spicy, books, writing, snow/winter, control, being cold, and cats.
Dislikes: Heat, thunderstorms/rain, politics, loud noises, authority figures, being corrected, bright lights, large gatherings of people, and spiders.
Desires: To escape the cage of womanhood and sail as far as possible.
Habits: Pursing her lips, whispering/talking to herself, running a hand through her hair, looking over her shoulder (she trusts no one), and a habit of saying "Is that so?" or "If you're quite sure" in a sarcastic manner.
Skills: Sewing, braiding hair, lying/manipulating, fighting with a sword.
Weasknessess: Impatient/easily bored, irritable/gives in easily to emotion, physically weak, brutally blunt, and magic (she isn't exactly a talented sorceress).
Fears: People, being in a cage/trapped by society's standards, and thunder/loud noises.
History: Born in the north Iona was the only child of Argyle (a butcher) who lost his wife (Wylla) not long after the birth of his daughter. It was the thick of winter and Wylla was not a woman of great health but had always desired a child. But Iona grew close to her father who she referred to as Argyle, which was only one of many reasons the other children found her strange. From a young age Iona had been taught the art of reading by her father; she grew to love books and thick novels and often would read whatever was within her house. She was typically found sprawled beneath the shade of a large tree with her nose shoved into a book. Nature was also a fascination of Iona’s. She loved the plants and flowers that bordered her house and would explore the bugs that crawled through the dirt.
It had been evident that as soon as she could walk Iona possessed the gift of magic. Though not entirely skilled in the area she would often run to the rivers bank and play in the cool water, squirting water up into the air and distorting its shape. When other children would pester her or even come near Iona was chuck rocks at them. But this small use of magic was enough to exhaust her small body and she would fall onto her butt panting. Argyle would find her snoozing against the trunk of a tree and would scold her for being cruel. Eventually he was able to find a small book on magic to give to his daughter; though it scarcely covered in the basics but it was all he could afford.
Argyle gave up much for his daughter and taught her things that normally were instructed by a mother. When she was ten he showed her how to sew so that she could create goods to sell at the market. He gave her his entire attention and saw to it that she was clothed and fed before himself.
Unfortunately Iona was never content in any one place; it was difficult for her to settle down or be given orders. At the age of eighteen she left her home and her father and traveled south towards the open sea. It was a selfish decision, geared towards her own happiness instead of the wellbeing of her father. The guilt at times haunts her but Iona shakes it off, allowing the oceanic breeze to refresh her heart. She is an independent pirate and operates a small vessel.
