The woman ran in a jumbled fashion in the dark. She knew better than to scream. No one could save her here. The only thing she could do is get away ... far, far away. It was obvious where the girl was heading as she slipped and fell every few feet in raw terror. It didn't help that the woman kept looking behind her trying to see if her pursuer was getting closer. She shouldn't have been looking behind.
Jay didn't budge an inch as the woman's frail weight crashed into her. Her hand came out wrapping around the woman's throat holding her still and choking off her cries or other noises she would make. "Maria Giazi," Jay said her voice barely rising above a whisper, but the woman's eyes widening in panic showed she heard Jay. The woman shook her head no in answer. Jay turned her head slightly and the night briefly lit up as Zeek, her dragon, rent the air with his fire giving Jay enough light to make certain she had the right target.
"You lied to me Maria," Jay whispered as the woman shook violently in her arms. Jay shushed her trying to calm her down as she pulled Maria closer into her arms. The thin edge blade sunk deep into her chest before Maria knew what was happening. The pain would last only a second for Maria. As the woman went limp in her hands Jay stared into her eyes watching the light fade; the soul vanish; the woman gone. Mission complete.
Two days later Jay was sitting in a darken tavern in the back. Her dragon was on the roof looking like a stone statue. She had nothing but the dredges left in her mug before she could signal for another the barmaid had already placed one in front of her and was picking up her empty mug. Jay slipped her a coin in payment and a tip.
"You know I've never seen a woman in here before," the barmaid said in conversation. Jay tilted her head up slightly to look at her. "I mean not like the men in here. Drinking beer and..." she trailed off as Jalen continued to stare. "I was just wondering why. Or if you wanted to talk. Maybe looking for work. You don't have to dress or act like a man for good work."
"Suzy, come on over here," the bartender said. Suzy, the barmaid, looked back at the bartender and sighed. She opened her mouth but he cut her off with a sharp 'Now.'
The further the girl walked the more Jay relaxed. She could hear the bartender arguing with the girl who was obviously his daughter. She wanted to help Jay and she chuckled in her mind sharing the conversation with Zeek who also laughed. Her father finally got through to the girl explaining that Jay had her hand on her hip where her weapon laid and would have used it if Suzy made the wrong move. Jay took the moment to look over at the pair who were staring at her and gave a small nod in agreement while moving her cloak slightly showing the blade she kept on her all times. The girl's eyes widen and she turned quickly from Jay.
Good. I think she won't bother me anymore.
The girl only wanted to help you, Jay. You could have been nice. Or spoken to her. I think people assume you are mute.
I don't want or need her help. She's weak and I couldn't use her if I found a need for her.

Jay was on high alert. She scanned the tavern quickly making sure that no one looked out of place. If any harm came to her Captain she would burn the tavern and the adjoining town down. He didn't htink he needed a body guard, but Jay took on the role silently; though the man could handle himself.
The door opened spilling sunlight into the tavern. Jay didn't turn and look like most people did to see who was coming in. She did another scan of the faces of the people who looked seeing anything that would make her suspicious. She wasn't sure if the incomer was her Captain or someone who walked in before him. Her Captain knew where to find her.
